Peggy Friedmann Gordon Music Competition

This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate Music majors who are currently enrolled in applied music lessons. You must be sponsored by an applied faculty member. 1st place winners of the 2023 Friedmann-Gordon and of the 2023 Lieberman competitions are not eligible.

Peggy Friedmann-Gordon Scholarship Competition Rules

• In keeping with the mission of the scholarship fund, this scholarship is for students presenting classical music.
• Eligible students must have a recital program of between 25-30 minutes in order to compete.
• Your formatted program (using a Department template) must also include the timings of your pieces. Failure to include timing of musical works will result in disqualification.
• A minimum of 10 minutes and maximum of 15 minutes will be heard by the faculty judges.
• The contestant will select their first piece. The judges will choose other works.
• The judges may also request a portion of any selections and may ask the contestant to end a piece early or start a work in the middle.
• All students selected to compete must have published scores of all music present at the audition. Failure to have these scores will result in disqualification from the competition. Published scores must be clearly marked as to where the work is found within a larger collection.
• Memorization is required for piano and voice (oratorio and chamber music excepted), optional for others.
